Q1. What do you do?

We are an online retailer and Australian manufacturer of Organic Baby Products including Certified Organic Baby Skincare and Certified Organic Cotton reusable products that parents use every day.

From humble beginnings in a garage in Byron Bay, Nature’s Child is the Australian Pioneer of Organic Baby Products that parents can use every day such as cloth nappies, breast pads and baby wipes. We were the first in Australia and remain the most recognised Certified Organic Baby Brand in Australia.

There are lots of reusable choices now but  20 yrs ago, the idea of earth-friendly products;  fabric, reusable breast pad or a cloth nappy made most people frown and look puzzled. Fortunately, a new wave of eco-minded parents realise there is the need for clean, organic and non toxic products . We have had the joy of witnessing an organic and eco-revolution.

Q2. What got you started in the chemical free industry?

I have my first child and I was shocked by the disposable nature of the baby products on offer. They were based on a throw away mentality, made largely from plastics and synthetic fabrics, they were costly and largely pointless.

I also realised the simple decisions I was making every day; such as what to eat for breakfast, what medicine to use on my sick baby and whether I put a cloth nappy or disposable on them could have a powerful impact. Billions of mothers all over the world are making those same decisions as me, every day.

The choices we all make are intimately connected to the health and welfare of our environment and in turn our family. For our survival of generations to come, I recognised we must recycling more, eliminate chemical use, wasting less, seek and offer sustainable solutions. This is at the heart of Nature’s Child.

Q3. What makes your product different?

We are not your typical baby store, and proud of it!  We are the shelter from the storm of internet overwhelm.

We know you don’t need much “stuff” so our goal is to inspire you to connect to your basic needs to care for you baby rather than getting caught up in expensive extras that come in cheap packaging.

Because every decision we make every day impacts our planet we only make products that have the purest ingredients where there is no harm to the environment or any of the people in our entire chain of growing, manufacturing and packaging.

We certify all our products with Peak Organic Industry Bodies that are recognised internationally including GOTS and Australian Certified Organic.

Q4. What has been your biggest obstacle?

Meeting consumer demands of sustainable packaging is still challenging for all manufacturers of earth-friendly products. At times there is a need to use plastic packaging in the interest of protecting the products you purchase from us.

Our manufacturers have made efforts to use bags and boxes that can be recycled and reused – so if you receive a product in a plastic bag, please recycle by re-using these bags for as long as possible! If you order a bottle or jar from us, our first choice at Nature’s Child will be to pack it in shredded paper in a box.

If you receive it in plastic bubble wrap instead, it will be because someone has sent me bubble wrap and I prefer to recycle it instead of throw it away. Please do the same. Please re-use any other packaging that you receive from us.  If you have any suggestions about how we can improve our packaging to be more earth-friendly, we would love to hear from you.

Q5.What is your most interesting/best TIP to help families reduce their chemical exposure?

Beware the NEW BABY BUYING FRENZY and the cheap toxic baby products.

The news of conception is broadcast and the word goes out to all female relatives of the child to be.  “LET THE BUYING BEGIN!”. It is easy to be lulled into a buying spree of clothing, toys, nursery items, and skincare. But do you need them all? Are they all safe – free of toxic chemicals.  We encourage new parents to take a breathe and start cutting back on their baby shopping research because there is so much out there to tease you a that you simply don’t need.

Q6. Is there another non-toxic business that you think is great & would recommend?
